A midweek check-in from your favorite pink-haired reptile nurse.

The Terrarium

Hey !

Now that the dust has officially settled from the mountain proposal and I'm slowly learning how to function with "Engagement Brain," I’ve been feeling a little nostalgic.

When Steve and I first decided to merge our lives, we didn't just share closet space. We shared a mutual love for things that most people cross the street to avoid. Naturally, it wasn't long before we decided to take the ultimate relationship step: buying our very first shared pet.

No, not a puppy. A tiny, incredibly colorful eight-legged roommate named Jeff.

Featured Creature: Jeff the Greenbottle Blue 🌌

Meet Jeff, our Greenbottle Blue tarantula (or GBB, if you want the street cred).

Jeff holds a permanent special place in the zoo because he was the very first invertebrate Steve and I picked out together. Look at those metallic blue legs and that pumpkin-orange abdomen, he looks less like an animal and more like a high-end sci-fi prop.

The Keeper Reality: GBBs are absolute rockstars for any keeper because they are enthusiastic webbers. Jeff doesn't just sit in a hide; he rearranges his entire enclosure into an elaborate, silk-lined fortress. Watching him modify his space over the years has been like watching a tiny, heavily armored interior designer at work. He’s a living reminder of why we fall in love with these guys in the first place.

🛍️ The Zoo Upgrade: Partnering with Id3r Exotics!

Because our zoo family keeps growing (and Jeff keeps expanding his silk empire), I am always on the lookout for top-tier husbandry supplies, enclosures, and tools that actually hold up to daily use.

That’s why I am incredibly hyped to announce an official partnership with Id3r Exotics! 🌿✨

I don't partner with brands unless I genuinely trust them with my own animals. Id3r Exotics is local, keeper-focused, and has the exact kind of high-quality gear we need to keep our ecosystems thriving. Even better? They wanted to hook up the Sweet Ave Zoo inner circle.

Next time you need to level up your setups, grab some new decor, or restock your supply shelf, use my code at checkout for a sweet discount:

👉 Shop here: Id3r Exotics Online Store

Whether you're celebrating a giant life milestone like an engagement, or a small milestone like your GBB spinning a pristine new web canopy, take a second to appreciate the people (and the critters) sharing the space with you.

I'm off to go see if Jeff needs a cricket, and to remind Steve that "submitting to the web" is a metaphor for marriage, probably.
From my zoo to yours, stay hydrated, feed your bugs, and check your basking temps.

Better late than never? (Plus: Feets the Tarantula!) 🕷️

On Wednesdays We Wear Scales  A midweek check-in from your favorite pink-haired reptile nurse. Hey! I have a confession: I completely forgot it was Wednesday yesterday. Between staring at my new ring, trying to remember what day of the week it is post-vacation, and catching up on all the "Zoo Business" I missed while in Asheville, my internal calendar is officially broken. I’m blaming Engagement Brain. But honestly? Sometimes the best schedule is the one that allows for a little chaos. If you’ve ever forgotten to mist your enclosures until 11 PM or realized you’re out of feeder insects on a Sunday night, just know, I am right there with you in the trenches of forgetfulness. Featured Creature: Feets the Curly Hair Speaking of things that are patient with my busy schedule, let’s talk about Feets, my Curly Hair Tarantula (Tliltocatl albopilosus). If you want an animal that won’t hold a grudge when you’re a day late on an update, get a tarantula. Feets is the ultimate low-maint...
