Issue #7 - Pizza the Axolotl + A Reptile Room Tour Spotlight

A midweek check-in from your favorite pink-haired reptile nurse.

The Terrarium

Hey!

I’ve been working behind the scenes in the reptile room (and resisting the urge to rearrange everything again), but today’s issue is all about a very special resident: Pizza the axolotl.

Whether you’re a seasoned salamander enjoyer or still learning what a “floof gill” is, this one’s for you.

Also ICYMI the full Reptile Room Tour is live and thriving on YouTube, and it’s our product spotlight of the week. More on that below!

Featured Creature

πŸ• Feature: Meet Pizza the Axolotl

Pizza is one of those animals that just makes you smile by existing. Squishy. Dramatic. Zero thoughts, just vibes. But beneath that adorable face, axolotls have some fascinating biology worth geeking out over.

🌊 A Creature That Never “Grows Up”

Axolotls are neotenic, meaning they keep their juvenile features (gills, aquatic lifestyle, etc.) their entire lives.

It’s like if a tadpole said “actually I’m good like this.”

✨ Keeper Note: Axolotls thrive in cool, stable water with gentle filtration, dim lighting, and plenty of hides. Avoid gravel, handle minimally, and feed a protein-rich diet like earthworms or quality pellets.

This is the face of an animal who absolutely knows when it’s worm o’clock.

Better late than never? (Plus: Feets the Tarantula!) πŸ•·️

On Wednesdays We Wear Scales  A midweek check-in from your favorite pink-haired reptile nurse. Hey! I have a confession: I completely forgot it was Wednesday yesterday. Between staring at my new ring, trying to remember what day of the week it is post-vacation, and catching up on all the "Zoo Business" I missed while in Asheville, my internal calendar is officially broken. I’m blaming Engagement Brain. But honestly? Sometimes the best schedule is the one that allows for a little chaos. If you’ve ever forgotten to mist your enclosures until 11 PM or realized you’re out of feeder insects on a Sunday night, just know, I am right there with you in the trenches of forgetfulness. Featured Creature: Feets the Curly Hair Speaking of things that are patient with my busy schedule, let’s talk about Feets, my Curly Hair Tarantula (Tliltocatl albopilosus). If you want an animal that won’t hold a grudge when you’re a day late on an update, get a tarantula. Feets is the ultimate low-maint...
