Issue #16 - A Warm-Blooded Valentine

A midweek check-in from your favorite pink-haired reptile nurse.

The Terrarium

Hey!

With Valentine’s Day around the corner, I thought it was only fair to feature the one resident of Sweet Ave Zoo who technically runs warmer than the rest of us.

This week’s creature feature is the only warm-blooded critter in the zoo, the one who supervises enclosure builds, judges my late-night snack choices, and insists on daily snuggles no matter how busy life gets.

Featured Creature

🐾 Feature: Sapphire — The Only Mammal in the Zoo

Meet Sapphire.

The only warm-blooded resident at Sweet Ave Zoo. The emotional support supervisor. The quality control inspector. The reason I go outside and touch grass even if it's to pick up her poop.

While the reptiles, amphibians, and inverts thrive in carefully regulated environments, Sapphire thrives on connection. She reminds me that keeping animals isn’t just about heat gradients and humidity, it’s about consistency, affection, and showing up every day.

She’s been there through night shifts, house closings, content chaos, and every “what if I built another enclosure?” thought spiral.

✨ Keeper Note: Even in homes full of ectotherms, don’t underestimate the grounding power of a warm-blooded companion.

Sweet Ave Zoo Membership (Okay I Promise I’m Not Being Annoying)

I know I mentioned it last week.

And I promise I’m not trying to be That Person.

But the Sweet Ave Zoo membership is honestly such a good deal that I’d feel weird not reminding you.

For $5/month, members get:

• Every single care guide I’ve ever made

• Including the full $10 Bug Care Manual

• Automatic access to future guides

• More perks as the club grows

If you’ve ever downloaded one guide, you’re already ahead by joining. And if you just want to support what I’m building here, this is the easiest way to do it.

No pressure. Just a genuinely good value for people who love real, ethical, slightly chaotic animal care.

Whether you’re spending Valentine’s Day with a partner, a pet, your best friend, or just your reptile room, I hope it feels warm.
From my zoo to yours, stay hydrated, feed your bugs, and check your basking temps.

Better late than never? (Plus: Feets the Tarantula!) 🕷️

On Wednesdays We Wear Scales  A midweek check-in from your favorite pink-haired reptile nurse. Hey! I have a confession: I completely forgot it was Wednesday yesterday. Between staring at my new ring, trying to remember what day of the week it is post-vacation, and catching up on all the "Zoo Business" I missed while in Asheville, my internal calendar is officially broken. I’m blaming Engagement Brain. But honestly? Sometimes the best schedule is the one that allows for a little chaos. If you’ve ever forgotten to mist your enclosures until 11 PM or realized you’re out of feeder insects on a Sunday night, just know, I am right there with you in the trenches of forgetfulness. Featured Creature: Feets the Curly Hair Speaking of things that are patient with my busy schedule, let’s talk about Feets, my Curly Hair Tarantula (Tliltocatl albopilosus). If you want an animal that won’t hold a grudge when you’re a day late on an update, get a tarantula. Feets is the ultimate low-maint...

The tarantula that started it all... 🕷️💙
