Issue #23 - Welcome to Arachnid Alley

A midweek check-in from your favorite pink-haired reptile nurse.

The Terrarium

Hey!

This week I want to invite you into a very specific corner of my reptile room…

A place that is equal parts peaceful, slightly spooky, and honestly one of my favorite spots in the house:

Arachnid Alley.

Featured Creature(s)

🕷️ Feature: Arachnid Alley

This little shelf is home to a collection of my invertebrates, mostly tarantulas, each in their own tiny, carefully built world.

And while they might not be the most interactive pets, keeping arachnids has been one of the most unexpectedly enriching parts of this hobby for me.

There’s something really grounding about it.

They don’t demand attention.

They don’t need constant handling.

They just… exist.

And your role becomes more about:

• Observation over interaction

• Environment over entertainment

• Patience over control

You start to notice the small things, webbing patterns, subtle movements, how each species uses space differently.

Every enclosure becomes its own little ecosystem, and every animal has its own rhythm.

✨ Keeper Note: Not every pet needs to be handled to be meaningful. Sometimes the best kind of connection is just learning how to watch.

Brazilian Black Tarantula Care Guide

If you’ve ever been curious about getting into tarantulas, or you want a species that’s known for being calm, hardy, and beginner-friendly, the Brazilian Black (Grammostola pulchra) is one of the best places to start.

I just released a care guide for them that breaks everything down in a way that’s simple, realistic, and actually helpful.

✨ Inside the guide:

• Enclosure setup (and how simple it can be)

• Feeding and growth expectations

• Temperament and handling considerations

• Common mistakes new keepers make

They’re often called the “golden retriever” of tarantulas, and honestly… it fits.

Not everything in this hobby has to be loud, interactive, or impressive to other people.

Sometimes it’s just a shelf, some dirt, a few tiny creatures…
and a moment of stillness at the end of a long day.

And that’s enough.

See you next Wednesday 🕷️
From my zoo to yours, stay hydrated, feed your bugs, and check your basking temps.

Better late than never? (Plus: Feets the Tarantula!) 🕷️

On Wednesdays We Wear Scales  A midweek check-in from your favorite pink-haired reptile nurse. Hey! I have a confession: I completely forgot it was Wednesday yesterday. Between staring at my new ring, trying to remember what day of the week it is post-vacation, and catching up on all the "Zoo Business" I missed while in Asheville, my internal calendar is officially broken. I’m blaming Engagement Brain. But honestly? Sometimes the best schedule is the one that allows for a little chaos. If you’ve ever forgotten to mist your enclosures until 11 PM or realized you’re out of feeder insects on a Sunday night, just know, I am right there with you in the trenches of forgetfulness. Featured Creature: Feets the Curly Hair Speaking of things that are patient with my busy schedule, let’s talk about Feets, my Curly Hair Tarantula (Tliltocatl albopilosus). If you want an animal that won’t hold a grudge when you’re a day late on an update, get a tarantula. Feets is the ultimate low-maint...
