Issue #38 - The Post-Woods Crash: When Reality Comes Crashing Back 🌲

A midweek check-in from your favorite pink-haired reptile nurse.

The Terrarium

Hey!

If you look at the photo below, you’ll see me in my absolute happy place: sitting on a log, surrounded by pines, breathing in fresh mountain air, and completely unplugged from the world.

Out in the woods, everything is quiet. Your mind finally gets a chance to slow down, the constant demands of daily life completely evaporate, and you remember what it feels like to just be. It was pure, unadulterated bliss.

But as anyone who loves the outdoors knows, the hardest part of going off the grid is coming back. The second vacation ends and your feet hit real life again, reality comes crashing back in like a ton of bricks.

So for Issue #38, we are stripping away the formal agenda. No Featured Creature, no Product Spotlight, just a real, honest check-in.

🌲 Holding Onto the Peace When Life Gets Heavy

Going from total peace straight into the high-stakes, fast-paced grind of everyday life is an absolute shock to the system. It leaves you feeling frazzled, drained, and wondering how the quiet calm of the woods slipped away so fast.

I’m holding onto the feeling in that photo today.

Being a keeper, an ER vet tech, and a human means that some weeks are just plain hard, and the transition back into real life can feel completely overwhelming. Giving ourselves grace during the post-vacation crash isn't weakness, it's necessary. We can't always control how fast or hard reality comes rushing back at us, but we can choose to take a slow, deep breath, protect our energy, and take things one single step at a time.

💬 Thank You for Being Here

To every single one of you who opens this newsletter every week: thank you for creating a space where I can just show up as a real human, even on the weeks where the transition back to reality feels heavy and exhausting.

We’ll get back to our usual creature spotlights, clinical tips, and cool husbandry gear next week once I’ve had a chance to catch my breath and find my rhythm again. But for today, I’m holding onto that campsite feeling a little longer.

If you’re currently struggling with the post-vacation blues, feeling overwhelmed by the daily grind, or just trying to catch your breath today, please remember to be gentle with yourself.
From my zoo to yours, stay hydrated, feed your bugs, and check your basking temps.

Better late than never? (Plus: Feets the Tarantula!) 🕷️

On Wednesdays We Wear Scales  A midweek check-in from your favorite pink-haired reptile nurse. Hey! I have a confession: I completely forgot it was Wednesday yesterday. Between staring at my new ring, trying to remember what day of the week it is post-vacation, and catching up on all the "Zoo Business" I missed while in Asheville, my internal calendar is officially broken. I’m blaming Engagement Brain. But honestly? Sometimes the best schedule is the one that allows for a little chaos. If you’ve ever forgotten to mist your enclosures until 11 PM or realized you’re out of feeder insects on a Sunday night, just know, I am right there with you in the trenches of forgetfulness. Featured Creature: Feets the Curly Hair Speaking of things that are patient with my busy schedule, let’s talk about Feets, my Curly Hair Tarantula (Tliltocatl albopilosus). If you want an animal that won’t hold a grudge when you’re a day late on an update, get a tarantula. Feets is the ultimate low-maint...

The tarantula that started it all... 🕷️💙
